Today is my Grandma Betty’s 80th birthday. And she’s in the hospital. She was admitted last Thursday for something completely different than the problems now. Only God knows the outcome and whatever it may be I am trusting in Him.
In honor of her birthday I thought I’d share some of my favorite memories.
Grandma and Grandpa recently moved to Tulsa from their farm in Sallisaw, OK. Their house had a basement. Grandma kept all sorts of things down there for us to play with like old dresses, shoes, and purses- even a wig. We fought over that wig many times.
When I was little, Grandma always had homemade cinnamon rolls waiting for us when we arrived. I tried to make them a few years ago. They didn’t compare. She also used to make the best German Chocolate Cake. My dad taught me to eat it in a bowl with milk on top. Odd. But good.
As we got older the traditional welcome food was Rotel dip. In fact, Brian still thinks it is a necessity at any Bane gathering.
Last year Grandma made me a scrapbook (and one for each of my sisters and cousins). It has pictures of her and my grandpa and their families. Pictures of my dad as a child and up. It’s filled with tons of photos she has kept over the years. I keep it in my living room. Each book is unique and special. Each picture has it’s own description.
Before I left for Nationals I stopped by their house to say goodbye. She had made me a huge banner that read: Best Wishes. Love to Lauren and the Highsteppers. Each letter was cut out by hand and glued onto a huge piece of paper. She had also made me brownies from scratch with no nuts. Just the way I like them. Those brownies were a life saver to me and the few seniors I shared them with.
Happy Birthday Grandma! I love you.

What a sweet Grandma. I love the banner!
I love the memories. It brings back the good ole days. I have a vivid picture in my head of me wearing that wig, and boy was I proud! I am so thankful grandma is doing better. Hope all went well in Florida! Miss you guys, lots of love
